Abstract

The importance of the body in the learning process, its physical and psychic experiences is the subject of this study, based on the research related to the creation of squares to assist children, daughters of workers, in a after school education as a proposal of full-time education. This initiative was conceived by Mário de Andrade, when he directed the Department of Culture of the Municipality of São Paulo, between 1935/1938. In 1922, we celebrated the centenary of the Independence of Brazil and the country was graced with the artistic movement that gave rise to many educational ramifications. The purpose of this article is to observe that all these educational movements were conceived for children who suffered from inequalities, made invisible by industrial growth, by technological advancement or even by some other aspect brought from modern life, preventing the “be a child; describe how, at this time, an educational development based on the broad view of the developing human being took place, until the moment when technology significantly changed school life, making physical presence at school impossible in the year 2020; reflect on how we are celebrating this moment of freedom, 200 years after the independence had being proclaimed at the shores of Ipiranga River and 100 years after the voice of the eternalized artists; as a conclusion, identify new paths to follow, considering the child as a producer and a consumer of culture. The qualitative research relied on the analysis of documents and relevant bibliographic references to justify the importance of the body for the teaching-learning process and in valorization of the regional and folkloric culture of our country.
